Lessons are tailored to the student's goals and level
Music School in Bellevue and Redmond

Initial Consultation
At Happy Minds School of Music, we understand that every student is unique, with their own strengths, weaknesses, and musical aspirations. That’s why we adopt a personalized approach to ensure each student receives the specific guidance and support necessary for their musical growth.
At Happy Minds School of Music, we take your musical education seriously. We keep track of how you and your kids are progressing each week, and do a yearly evaluation to make sure you're all improving. In order to uphold its rigorous quality standards and accommodate the limited instructional capacity, Happy Minds School of Music will hold in-person consultations and auditions once a month: the second Saturday in Bellevue and the second Sunday in Redmond. This structured process allows us to thoroughly assess applicants and preserve an optimal learning environment.

For Beginners: Initial Consultation
If you or your child have never taken music lessons before or are interested in exploring the world of music, we invite you to schedule an initial consultation. During this session, our experienced instructors will take the time to understand your goals, interests, and any specific needs you may have. We'll provide insights and recommendations on the best instrument and learning approach to help you embark on your musical adventure.

For Experienced Students: Audition and Skill Assessment
If you or your child have been taking music lessons and wish to continue your studies with us, we encourage you to schedule an audition. The audition assess your current skill level while also understanding your musical preferences and aspirations, allowing us to match you with the right instructor and develop a customized lesson plan that builds on your existing knowledge, and addresses the specific areas for improvement.

Parental Involvement: A Collaborative Approach
At Happy Minds School of Music, we believe that parental involvement is crucial for a student's success. During the initial consultation and audition, we'll take the time to discuss your child's strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles with you. This collaborative approach ensures that we can provide a tailored lesson plan that aligns with your child's needs and goals, fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for their musical growth.

For Adult Learner
We recognize that every adult learner embarks on this journey with a distinct set of experiences and aspirations. Some may have dabbled in music during their youth, while others are venturing into this realm for the very first time. Regardless of their starting point, our consultation process ensures that we can tailor a personalized learning experience that aligns with their specific needs and interests. The audition serves as a crucial assessment tool, enabling our instructors to evaluate your current skill level objectively. This assessment is not a test of perfection but rather a means to understand your strengths and areas for growth. By identifying your unique musical aptitude, we can design a curriculum that challenges you while ensuring a supportive and encouraging learning environment.

Basic Lessons
Happy Minds School Of Music currently offers our students private music instruction for Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Saxophones, Clarinet, Flute, Guitar, Ukulele, Drums, and Voice. Private lessons provide students with individualized, 1-on-1, lessons with one of our kid-friendly and musically educated instructors. They are geared towards the specific goals, needs, and aspirations of each student regardless of experience or age.
For new students, we offer an optional individual placement interview to match the student with the right teacher. We also specialize in music lessons for adults. Students will be able to participate in a variety of performance opportunities at our school, including recitals, yearly evaluations, and graded examinations, which provide students with varied opportunities to show their skills and talents. Private lessons include 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. Each lesson provides comprehensive music education that includes playing, technique, and theory.

Music Theory Classes
The study of music theory provides the essential foundation for a deeper understanding of music as a language. It complements the study of music performance so that students can learn to listen and speak, and not merely "pronounce," the language of music through the instrument. At Happy Minds, music theory courses are taught based on the syllabus of Royal Conservatory Achievement Programs with 10 levels of core classes. The sooner students begin to acquire this essential knowledge, the better they will be able to understand and appreciate the music they are playing. Basic theory courses are open to students ages 6 and older. Slightly younger students may be accepted into the program based on their teacher’s recommendation.

Ensemble
Ensembles are a great way to learn to perform classical music. It is almost equivalent to playing rock music in a band. We encourage all of our students to participate in the Ensemble Program to experience the beauty of performing and making music in a group setting. Ensembles encourage interaction between students and foster teamwork among the performers. We integrated the ensemble programs into our monthly membership rates. Therefore, the students can enjoy comprehensive musical programs at affordable rates. The students are evaluated through an audition process and matched up with other students of the same skill level. Once placed in groups, students will learn to perform music with other students of similar levels and ages. The program is open to violin, viola, cello, piano, guitar, vocal, saxophone, clarinet, and flute students.

Rock Band
At HMSM, we strongly encourage our students to supplement their private lessons with our group lesson program. Students of similar ages and skill levels are placed in bands composed of peers. We also allow existing bands to sign up as a group and receive coaching from our professional musicians! Through the band program, students take part in weekly jam sessions and practice songs together; each band decides on the songs and genres they want to work on. Plus, they get the opportunity to compose their own tunes and make their album! Bands are also given a chance to perform in public, so they can gain experience in front of live crowds and learn what it's like to play at local music venues.
