Carolina

Carolina borns in Barranquilla, Colombia. She completed her undergraduate studies at Catholic University in Washington DC and pursued her Master’s in Vocal Performance at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX. She is currently a DMA candidate in Vocal Performance at the University of Washington. She has been teaching voice and piano at a very high level since 2002, providing private lessons at the collegiate level and classroom instruction at the elementary school level. She has extensive operatic, theatrical, and solo experience performing in numerous operas and musicals. Opera roles include Dialogues of the Carmelites, L’Elisir d’amore, Die Zauberflöte, Don Pasquale, Le Nozze di Figaro, Die Fledermaus, Cosí fan tutte, Der Freischütz, and the Musicals She Loves Me, Fiorello! and West Side Story performed in Washington DC, New York and Texas. Additionally, she performed for the Houston Grand Opera for several seasons. Carolina is multilingual speaking fluently in Italian, Spanish and English. Carolina has a passion for teaching and loves to work with students of all ages.

Lauren

Lauren wasborn and raised in the great Northwest, Lauren has taught clarinet, saxophone, and flute in the Seattle area for several years. A recent grad from the University of Washington she received a Master's in Music Education, where she studied education and conducting with Dr. Steven Morrison and Tim Salzman, and jazz saxophone with Greg Sinibaldi. She received her Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Central Washington University where she studied with Larry Gookin, Mark Lane, and Joseph Brooks. Before going to UW, Lauren was hired by Seattle Public Schools and taught band and orchestra at Broadview-Thomson K-8 for two years and then orchestra and choir at Whitman Middle School for three. Lauren maintains a busy schedule performing in semi-pro and professional bands around the area where she plays clarinet with the Washington Wind Symphony, Northwest Symphony Orchestra, and the Seattle Rock Orchestra. She also gigs on saxophone playing funk and jazz around the city with various project groups. Most recently, Lauren was appointed to be the conductor for Around the Sound Community Band in North Seattle and is excited to start conducting professionally. 

 

Lauren has taught a wide range of ability levels and strives to find the right kind of instruction for each student. Lessons are centered around making sure students experience success at their instrument, no matter how small. Incremental improvements can lead to big changes in the future so finding what motivates students to succeed is integral to her methods of instruction.
